This area was a sub-kingdom called ‘Ruhuna’ from 3rd century BC. Yatala Wehera was the
first stupa in ‘Ruhuna’ which was constructed by king ‘Mahanaga’ who was the first king in
this sub-kingdom. There is an architectural museum beside the Yatala Wehera. There are
many artifacts which were found by archeological excavations. You will see the splendor of
our ancient architecture and art.
